An unlockable character is a character that is not able to be picked until certain conditions are met. Once the condition is met, the character's icon will appear on the screen, showing that they are now playable, with the exception of characters that are exclusively unlocked by buying them in the store. There are a multitude of unlockable characters in the game.
It is worth noting that all characters are locked at the beginning of story mode except Ben Tennyson. As the story progresses certain characters will be unlocked. Some characters will be temporarily unavailable during the story as well regardless of whether they were unlocked previously in the story or not, including Ben Tennyson himself.

- Bubbles: Play 7 Matches or beat the first stage of the Powerpuff Girls.
- Blossom: Play 12 Matches or beat the first stage of the Powerpuff Girls.
- Monkey: Play 18 Matches or obtain him in the first stage of Dexter's Lab.
- Grim: Win 25 Matches or beat the first stage of The Grim Adventures.
- Samurai Jack: Play 33 matches or beat the First stage of Samurai Jack.
- Father: Play 42 matches or beat Story Mode.
- Vilgax: Play 52 Matches or Beat Story Mode.
- Mojo Jojo: Play 63 Matches or Beat Story Mode.
- Captain Planet: Play 75 Matches or beat Story Mode.
