Punchtime

Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion is a fighting game based heavily upon the Super Smash Bros series, but with famous Cartoon Network characters. It was first released for the Nintendo 3DS and an updated version, titled Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL, was released for the Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Sony PlayStation 3.

Gameplay[]

The game is a 2D fighting/platforming with many elements that are similar to Nintendo's own Super Smash Bros. series of games. The game can have up to four players battle in a free for all/king of the hill setting where the last one standing wins. (Although, this objective is changed depending on which game mode is chosen.) Similarly to Smash, there are multiple forms of attacking, each button capable of either performing an attack or signature attack (both of which are effected by the direction being pressed), grab, block, and the Punch Time Explosion. A Punch Time Explosion is the character's ultimate attack which is obtained by collecting 40 blue cubes. These blue cubes are collected by damaging opponents. The higher the damage the more cubes will drop with a maximum of 4 dropping. Players can use various items or assists (characters who are summoned to aid in battle) that appear around the stage to aid them in battle. Players are able to turn the items on or off as well as assists in custom game. Players can choose between 21 different stages for battles. Many stages shift between multiple phases as the battle continues, and players may use stage elements in order to take out other players. The game comes with a campagin or story mode where the player must reach the end of a level, or complete a series of battles and challenges in order to progress.

Trivia[]

  • Strangely, the style of the box art differs from the North American version and the European version of the game.
  • Flapjack, Bloo, and Dexter are on both the 3DS and Wii box arts; however, their placements are different, and Dexter's render was changed.
  • Dexter is the only character on all box arts for the game.
